Looking ahead to the winter months we have an exciting event to share. The Sailability WA committee (partly made up of a few past commodores) are organising a “Finding Freedom” fundraiser luncheon on the 26th of August, between 12 and 4 PM. The luncheon hosted by RPYC will include a few fun events like a phantom race call and silent auction, along with a surprise guest making an appearance! Graig Ibbitson from Fisher and Paykel will be the MC for the afternoon, and their business has generously donated products for the event.
We’re aiming to raise funds for a single-person Hansa Liberty, among other projects, to expand the training fleet of boats available for people with disabilities to sail independently.
Did you know that the Hansa Liberty could be included by World sailing as a development class for Parasailing events?
Parasailing events are both nationally and internationally organised under the banner of World Sailing and provide a great competition experience for sailors with disabilities (replacing what used to be known as IFDS International Federation disabled sailors prior to 2016). Some of the RPYC para-sailors that may be known to club members are; Genevieve Wickham, Elliott Coe, and Robert Croft to name a few.
